Message of support for Hurricane Melissa victims

West Northamptonshire Labour Group has sent a message of solidarity and support to the people of the Caribbean, and especially Jamaica who have seen their homes and communities devastated by hurricane Melissa.

Cllr Sally Keeble, Labour Group Leader, said: "This unprecedented hurricane has wreaked havoc in Jamaica and other parts of the Caribbean. Lives have been lost and communities destroyed. Our thoughts and prayers are with them, and also with the many people in West Northamptonshire who have family members and friends there. We grieve with you in your loss.

"It's welcome that the UK Government is providing £2.5 million in funding and also technical assistance to help in the recovery. We also support calls from local communities in West Northamptonshire for West Northamptonshire Council to provide support for communities in organising fund-raising locally.

"Meanwhile we also highlight the fund-raising appeal of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent." The portal to make donations is here
