Castle ward councillors support tough action against retail crime

Prompt police action to arrest a man in connection with a spate of town centre retail attacks has been welcomed by Castle Ward Labour councillors.

And they pledged to work with local police officers over any further attacks targeting businesses in the area.

Cllr Muna Cali, Enam Haque and Fartun Ismail said the attacks were a huge blow for businesses at their busiest time of year.

“These are heinous crimes that hit businesses in the middle of their vital Christmas trade,” the councillors said. “We welcome the prompt action by the police that has already resulted in an arrest.

“And we ask that people come forward with any further reports to tackle this spate of attacks. Business owners are welcome to contact us about the problem too.

“Retail crime is a major problem, a blight on our town, and we fully support the police in their efforts to combat it," they said.
